Oct. 5, 2011—California Gov. Edmund Brown recently signed into law California Senate Bill 869. The legislation amends the Automotive Repair Act, which regulates automotive repairers and airbag replacement.
The new law states that automotive repairers who prepare a written estimate for the replacement of a deployed airbag will be guilty of a misdemeanor if they fail to restore the airbag as specified, according to the Automotive Service Association (ASA).
The violation is punishable by a $5,000 fine, one-year imprisonment, or both, according to the ASA.
