Report: 69% of hit-and-run collisions involve parked vehicles

Feb. 18, 2010--Claims data from Allstate Insurance Co. reveal 69 percent of hit-and-run collisions in the United States involve a parked vehicle.

Most states require a driver responsible for an accident with an unattended vehicle to notify the owner or leave a note, but some do not, according to Allstate.

Percentages of hit-and-run collisions involving a parked vehicle in America’s five largest states follow:
New York, 70 percent
Los Angeles, 60 percent
Chicago, 67 percent
Houston, 57 percent
Pheonix, 67 percent
