Recyclers, repairers to discuss recycled parts at QRP roundtable

Aug. 18, 2010

August 18, 2010—The next Quality Replacement Parts (QRP) “Recycled Parts Roundtable” meeting—a coalition of auto recyclers in nine states—will be held this fall in Las Vegas.

The meeting aims to discuss and work toward solutions for issues surrounding the use of recycled parts in the collision repair industry. QRP hopes recyclers, insurers and repairers can share in the responsibility of educating themselves about recycled parts.

“We don’t have any illusions that there aren’t still some people out there, and maybe even at these meetings, who say, ‘If I had my druthers, I’d never use a used part,’” said Mel Hunke, of QRP. “But there are others who are realistic about it and say if we don’t find ways to use more recycled parts more profitably, we’re going to lose some insurer repair programs and the repair is just going to go some place else. So the only sensible thing for all of us is to address how are we going to process used parts so that everybody can come out with some kind of a win.”

The roundtable meeting will be held Nov. 4. For more information about the event, email Mel Hunke at [email protected].
