CARSTAR looks to break world record with Wash for a Wish event

April 25, 2011

April 25, 2011 — On June 11, CARSTAR will attempt to break its own world record for the most cars washed at multiple venues during a fundraiser benefiting the U.S. Make-A-Wish Foundation and children with cystic fibrosis in Canada.

Roughly 2,000 volunteers are expected to participate at 140 CARSTAR stores throughout North America during the one-day event, formally known as the Wash for a Wish Soaps It Up! Car Wash. To break its previous world record, set in 2009, the volunteers have to wash more than 4,000 cars in eight hours.

“Over the first two years, the Soaps It Up! Car Wash has been able to unite the CARSTAR family across North America to help thousands of children in need,” said David Byers, CEO of CARSTAR. “Now, we are ready to continue the tradition and make the Wash for a Wish Soaps It Up! Car Wash the biggest and best ever. We want to break our Guinness World Record for world’s largest car wash—and bring even more support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America and cystic fibrosis in Canada.”

CARSTAR is selling tickets at its stores for $10; all proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and other selected charities. Also as part of the event, 3M Car Care is offering a $6 rebate on its scratch removal kit, Hertz is providing up to $25 off rentals with every ticket purchase and Cheryl’s Cookies is giving participants six free cookies.

“We're grateful that CARSTAR is doing so much to help us improve the quality of life for our wish kids and their families through a wish experience,” said David Williams, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. “Wish kids are happier, more self-confident and feel less isolated as a result of their wishes. The Soaps It Up! event will enable even more kids across the country to enjoy those life-affirming qualities.”

CARSTAR has conducted the car wash event in Canada for seven years. This will be the third year of U.S. participation. For more information on the program, go to carstar.com.
