BASF supplies recycled resin in support of Ford’s green efforts

Aug. 18, 2011

Aug. 18, 2011 — BASF is contributing to Ford Motor Company’s goal to produce greener vehicles by supplying a resin containing recycled material for some of the automaker’s intake manifolds.

The manifolds appear in the 2.5-liter I-4 engine for the Fusion and Escape models, the 5-liter engine in F-Series trucks and Mustangs, and the 6.2-liter engine for the F-Series. Tier 1 Suppliers Montaplast and MAHLE North America are producing the manifolds.

"This cooperative effort between Ford, BASF and MAHLE, is yet another example of innovation, this time in the area of sustainability,” said John Mammarella, who is responsible for MAHLE’s North American air intake modules. “Thanks to Ford for their leadership on this project.”

Marianne Morgan, powertrain sector leader for BASF’s engineering plastics business, said the company works in close partnership with customers to meet their needs and goals. Ford’s effort to introduce recycled materials into production components is part of a broad sustainability strategy to reduce its global carbon footprint.
