Collision Repair Education Foundation fundraiser hauls in $60,000 for scholarships

Aug. 18, 2011

Aug. 18, 2011 — The Collision Repair Education Foundation’s 10th annual golf fundraiser made $60,000 for scholarships and grants this year, doubling the amount raised in 2010, the organization announced Thursday.

The event, co-hosted by PPG Automotive Refinish, took place July 21 at Stonebridge Golf Club in Salt Lake City.

“The Foundation’s annual industry fundraiser has grown leaps and bounds the past three years and each year we raise more and more funds for student scholarships and school grants,” said Scott Kruger, executive director of the foundation. “Not only did the event sell out four months early, but it also doubled the amount raised in 2010 and tripled the amount raised from 2009.”

Kruger attributed the event’s success to its many sponsors, attendees and co-host. He expects continued growth next year, when the event will be in San Antonio, Texas.

Domenic Brusco, senior manager of industry relations for PPG Automotive Refinish, said PPG was privileged to support the industry’s future through such events. The company has co-hosted the foundation’s golf fundraiser for three consecutive years.

“This is a great display of how the industry can come together to support its upcoming workforce,” Brusco said.

Bridgerland Applied Technology College in Logan, Utah, winner of the foundation's 2010 $50,000 Ultimate Collision Education Makeover, also had some representatives at the golf fundraiser. Kevin Cornia, collision repair instructor at the school, attended the event with some of his students, who crafted the first-place team trophies.

Individuals and companies interested in being a part of next year’s fundraiser can contact Brandon Eckenrode, the foundation’s associate director of development, at 847.463.5244 or [email protected].
