October 21, 2010—Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. announced on Thursday that it will conduct a voluntary safety recall of 740,000 cars.
The recalled cars are the following models sold in the United States:
• 2005-2006 Avalon;
• 2004-2006 Highlander (Non Hybrid);
• 2004-2006 Lexus RX330;
• 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250 and IS350.
These cars are at risk of brake fluid leaking from the brake master cylinder resulting in the brake warning light illuminating, according to a Toyota press release_notes. If the brake warning light is on and the car is used without refilling the brake fluid, the driver could experience a soft brake pedal and braking performance may decline.
Owners will be notified via mail by early November 2010. Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the brake master cylinder cup at no charge to the owner.
