July 16, 2013—Zara’s Collision Center, based in Springfield, Ill., will offer a free training course for local emergency first responders on how to properly handle and care for individuals with disabilities at accident scenes and during mass casualty situations, the company announced Tuesday.
The training course, called “Rescue 4 Disabled,” is designed for community emergency response team members—including fire departments, rescue squads and ambulance services—in central Illinois. The course will provide information on the construction of mobility vehicles, as well as proper procedures for vehicle shutdown, stabilization, access and occupant extraction.
The class is scheduled to take place July 22 at 6 p.m. at Zara’s Collision Center.
“Knowing how to handle persons with disabilities is critical for a favorable outcome to an emergency incident,” said Brad Zara, co-owner of Zara’s Collision Center.
