Dec. 13, 2010—The first Chevrolet Volts left the assembly plant in Detroit on Monday and are headed for California, Texas, Washington D.C. and New York, according to a General Motors (GM) press release.
The Volt is the world’s first electric vehicle with extended-range capabilities, according to a GM press release. The Volt combines battery-only driving with a gas-powered engine to allow 359 miles of driving before the battery needs to be recharged or the gas tank needs to be refilled.
"Today is a historic milestone for Chevrolet," said Tony DiSalle, Volt marketing director. "We have redefined automotive transportation with the Volt, and soon the first customers will be able to experience gas-free commuting with the freedom to take an extended trip whenever or wherever they want."
