Aug. 11, 2011 – Ford recently posted a video on YouTube intended to demonstrate the difference in quality between OEM and aftermarket steel collision parts.
Narrated by Ford Repairability Engineer Larry Coan, Ford stated that with the greater use of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel in today’s cars and trucks, using the right parts is even more important in helping to restore a damaged vehicle’s ability to provide the intended level of protection in a crash.
Ford also emphasized the use of genuine Ford collision parts, stating that they’re the same as those used to manufacture the vehicle and are the only parts proven during the vehicle development process to deliver the intended level of protection as a whole system. Altering how those parts work together as a system, Ford said, can have a negative impact in a subsequent collision.
The company also said that repair estimates are higher with the use of aftermarket parts.
The tests included Mustang and Focus bumper beams, F-150 bumper brackets and radiator supports and Mustang bumper absorbers and isolators.
