ASA members take concerns to Capitol Hill

May 16, 2011

May 16, 2011 — Automotive repairers from throughout the country converged on Washington, D.C., last week for the Automotive Service Association’s (ASA) annual Taking the Hill day.

ASA members met with congressional leaders and their staff to discuss a number of topics. Repairers highlighted the need for legislators to do the following, according to ASA:

• Provide incentives for state periodic motor vehicle safety inspection programs and a national study on safety inspection programs;
• Support the enforcement of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 6H rule;
• Support independent repairers having input in the upcoming Federal Insurance Office’s report on insurance regulation;
• Support vehicle disclosure legislation;
• Oppose Right to Repair legislation;
• Support funding for vocational education programs.

Repairers also talked about the economic importance of independent repairers and the needs of the repair industry, according to the ASA. For more information on the organization’s legislative efforts, go to takingthehill.com.
