Feb. 25, 2011 — GEICO companies recently appointed longtime employee Machell Hamlin assistant vice president.

Hamlin, who most recently worked as New Jersey staff counsel director for the company, started at GEICO in 1986, working in a series of claims positions. She started her counsel career in 1996 and later joined GEICO’s Legislative Counsel Department, rising to senior counsel.

“Machell has excelled at every stage of her GEICO career,” said Don Lyons, GEICO senior vice president. “Machell and her legal team have made considerable progress. We are fortunate to have someone with her breadth of experience to take on this challenging new role.”

Hamlin, from Mitchellville, Md., is admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland, Washington, D.C., and the Federal District court in Greenbelt, Md.

GEICO also announced that George Rogers, of Lakeland, Fla., was named to the company’s board of directors. Rogers has been with the company since 1969 and currently serves as regional vice president of Florida operations.

GEICO is the third-largest private insurer in the U.S. The company handles auto coverage for 10 million private passenger auto policies and insures more than 16 million vehicles.
