Hyundai has launched its first car with a solar roof charging system.

Aug. 6, 2019—Hyundai has launched its first car with a solar roof charging system, according to a report by CNBC.

The technology will be used on the latest version of its Sonata Hybrid. The idea is for the solar roof to support the car’s electric power source, boost fuel efficiency and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

Silicon solar panels have been attached to the roof and can charge while the car is moving. About 30-60 percent of the car's battery could be charged using the technology, in theory.
