The Merits of Operating on Saturdays

May 30, 2019
Greg Roshon, a veteran shop owner in Loveland, Ohio, explains how being open on Saturdays has been valuable to his business.

Like any good body shop operator, Greg Roshon makes sure his staff goes out of its way to provide the little things.

Roshon's staff at Collision & Customs, in Loveland, Ohio, makes a concerted effort to make customers comfortable upon arrival to the Greater Cincinnati facility. The staff takes time to educate those clients. And, Roshon prides himself on going the extra mile to answer clients' questions ... even at 10 o'clock at night via Facebook.

But Roshon takes things a step further by having his business operate on Saturdays. And it has provided a key lifeline for a shop that's in its second decade in operation, brings in a little less than $1 million per year, and has zero DRPs.

"A lot of people pick up or drop off on Saturdays, so it's just convenient for people to not miss work," Roshon recently told FenderBender

Roshon has his staff work 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and has done so since 2003. While Collision & Customs might only work on two or three vehicles each Saturday, it also provides extended hours that most competitors refuse to match ... and customers largely seem appreciative, the shop owner says.

Plus, for a shop that only works on 30 vehicles per month, Saturday work can add up rather significantly.

"I think a shop anywhere would benefit," Roshon says, "even if they just wrote estimates on Saturdays."
