There’s no universal formula for guaranteed success in the collision repair industry. Location, personnel, shop size, insurance partnerships, repair processes and a host of other factors go into determining whether any given operation will make it.
But one thing most successful shops have in common is someone at the top who has figured out how to make the shop hum, a leader who recognizes the unique facets of his or her business and knows how to get the most out of it every day. We wanted to get inside the heads of some of those leaders to see what makes them tick and find out how they go about running their shops.
So, we sent a survey via email to FenderBender readers and received responses from nearly 400 shop operators at the helm of facilities varying in size and income across the country. We asked them about their backgrounds, their leadership styles, how they structure staff, their biggest obstacles and their outlook for the future.
They share many of same challenges, but most of their shops are growing and they expect that trend to continue. It’s how they go about making that happen that sets them apart.
