Dec. 6, 2018—Volkswagen CEO Scott Keogh says that electric cars are not years away from becoming a mainstream reality, as some contend, and that Volkswagen is ready for the millions of mass-market electric vehicles it intends to produce, reported Green Car Reports.

Keogh says the reason electric vehicles and Tesla is at the top of sales charts is because the automotive business is driven by what's new.

Evidence of the popularity of electric vehicles is evident through an increase in positive responses to a simple question: "Would you consider an electric vehicle?" In just a few years it has gone from "I don't know what they are" to "I probably know someone who has them, I read something , and I'm kind of thinking about it."

Consumers are concerned about missing out on electric vehicles and not on miles per gallon or pricing, Keogh says. Consumers are now responding to surveys that they don't want to be left behind.
