Hyundai joins Ford in slamming aftermarket parts

August 17, 2010—The use of aftermarket, recycled or imitation parts to repair a vehicle after a collision is not supported by Hyundai Motor America, according to a recent statement by the company.

Hyundai vehicles and genuine parts are designed to meet Hyundai’s exact engineering specifications, to comply with government regulations and to protect occupants in collisions, the statement read. Further, Hyundai said the use of non-original parts, “may negatively affect the crashworthiness and occupant safety during a collision.”

This statement was release_notesd soon after Ford Motor Co. released a comparison study at the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) in Chicago in July, stating that aftermarket parts are often inferior to those made by automakers and that consumers are not told when non-standard parts are used in a repair.
