Feb. 7, 2011 — A Mississippi bill that would have repealed the state’s annual vehicle safety inspection program was recently defeated in committee.
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) opposed the bill and launched a grassroots effort to kill it earlier this year. Mississippi Rep. Steve Home, R-81, introduced the legislation, known as House Bill 151.
A second bill, House Bill 848, which would have revised the Mississippi Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Law to require inspections no more than once every two years, was also defeated in committee. For more information on the bills, go to ASA’s legislative website, takingthehill.com.
