March 22, 2018—Ford hired an outside lab to test aftermarket F-150 parts and found parts did not meet OEM dimensions, according to Ford's newsletter, On Target.
The lab conducted laser scans of an aftermarket aluminum hood and front bumper brackets for the 2012 F-150.
Results showed peaks and valleys several millimeters outside the Ford specification on the hood and the front-bumper brackets were found to have fluctuations in the curvature of the bracket wall, according to the newsletter.
The variations could lead to longer repair times and higher costs—ultimately affecting the vehicle in the next crash.
